What a…

Trump is on live TV… giving a tough on crime speech to some kind of police audience…

He wants someone to explain why the police cannot access surplus military equipment. Well, that reason has much to do with constitutional prohibitions on the  militiarization of domestic police forces. Apparently, his idea of a free society is the West Bank.

Of course it is a personal and family tragedy when a police officer is killed – but no more so than when any other citizen is killed. Trump proposes mandatory death penalties for those who murder police. This is actually an insult to those families who lose people under other circumstances: the lives of their loved ones are not as worthy. I’m not a fan of the death penalty, but its application for some murders and not others violates the Equal Protection clause.

If the country was serious about reducing violent crime, and about increasing personal security for police officers, then the US would 1) end the war on drugs, entirely, and 2) end the criminalization of petty traffic incidents, like an expired registration sticker, and simply mail in the ticket instead of pulling drivers over and opening the door to officer-on-civilian violence.

If the US cannot end the war on drugs, or the criminalization of motor vehicle issues, then its police officers should not expect personal safety. Nor do they deserve such safety. People who follow orders that violate natural law present themselves as legitimate targets if and when they are in the actual act of violating the natural rights of citizens.

Police can be part of the solution, but only within a criminal justice system that has some merit, and that does not prey and parasite upon the underclass to fill up for-profit prisons.

Once of the benefit of living in China is that this kind of story, Trump’s live speech, would only appear on a website afterwards, and I would have to actively click on the link to read about it. Now I simply turn on any major station and the speech is beamed into my room. It’s a good thing I’m preparing, otra vez, to get the fuck out of here.

Fly the Stingy Skies

Don’t get me entirely wrong… I’m grateful that in this day and age it is possible to travel from New York to Arizona in five hours.

However, United Airlines is certainly desperate to rake in each and every penny.

Checking in online, one must decline multiple offers for this and that, for upgrading, etc… Continue, continue, continue. No, I just want to check in…

Also, one no longer receives the frequent flier miles of the actual distance. I found this out the hard way when i was awarded 600 miles or something on a flight from Germany to Colombia. I called the airlines, confident they had made a mistake: No, the miles depend on how one originally purchases the ticket.

Amazingly I had to pay a fee just for one bag. The new normal. I believe that United also charges for a second bag on international flights. I will soon find out.

Also, on board, one has to 1) pay for wi-fi and 2) pay for watching TV, very stingy. Even on flights to Mexico and South America.

Long gone are the days of a free meal, of course. Even any snack that is not a tiny bag of pretzels must be purchased. Cheese and crackers, for sale of course.

Yes, this is one thing I definitely miss about China, where flying is like it was in the US decades ago: free food, free booze (for those who want it), free entertainment, and super hot stewardesses (if one can even make that comment any more in the US).

Coke Adds Life?

Long-time readers are familiar with this topic. I’ve claimed that drinking Coca-Cola is a ritual, the sacramental drink of industrialization and globalization. Chained to the Rhythm.

This is why the US Army in World War II, as it conquered chains of Pacific islands, had soldiers dedicated to ensuring that Coke was available for the troops – and, more importantly, who gathered up the natives and converted the heathens to the Cult of Coke. These soldiers did so with the same zeal of the earliest Franciscan priests in Mexico.

There’s more to that. Drinking Coke and Pepsi is a kind of vampiric ritual, with the drink representing the blood of the Earth. Coke is petroleum, or a “fossil”-fuel. Drinking coke allows the body to run at factory speed, much like Charlie Chaplin in Modern Times.

This meaning is embedded in the name itself: Coca-Cola (Coke).

According to Wikipedia: “Coke is a fuel with few impurities and a high carbon content, usually made from coal. It is the solid carbonaceous material derived from destructive distillation of low-ash, low-sulphur bituminous coal. ”

Hope it Works

Venezuela may launch the “petro” digital currency to circumvent sanctions by the US (a country that will not sanction Honduras)…

More importantly, the petro represents an opportunity to move towards a more complex system in which decentralization serves those at the bottom of society rather than becoming an excuse for neo-liberal oligarchies.

A digital currency based on petroleum, gas, diamonds and gold has the potential to become the currency of choice for everyday transactions in Venezuela, and possible in nearby Latin American countries. If it works out. On paper it’s a great idea. It would allow Venezuela to sidestep the monopoly power of the prevailing monetary regimes.

I’ve often argued that the precondition for anything even resembling a “free market” is “free currency” – “free currencies,” in the plural. Otherwise, all economic actors are simply bit players in a game of Monopoly.

Here, “free markets” should not simply reproduce anarchism (the libertarian fantasy in which one person, or one family, may still own all of a country’s natural resources). A free market should allow for the push and pull of small-scale competition within multiple and competing political contexts. Civilization should have its standards of behavior, and groups, and entire nations, should have a sense of direction that elevates human material and spiritual life.

Well, anything that is a thorn in the side of the dollar and euro system is positive. Mainstream media in the Anglo-American world either condemns the petro or makes fun of it. So the petro must be a good thing.

The Third Temple

Bring Your Lamb to Slaughter

This story about Trump recognizing Jerusalem and the construction of a “temple” is going around mainstream media.

As I’ve argued many times, there is no such thing as “prophecy.” That would only exist if a prediction about the future were to have been kept under lock and key, visible only to a few cultists, and then later opened to reveal that the words did, in fact, predict events.

Once a “prophecy” becomes widely disseminated, thus becoming profane, then it is simply assumes the form of a script – a user’s guide. Anyone can act in accordance with it to bring an event about. That’s just living up to the slogan of grafitti. Prophecy my ass.

Here is the news item:

“What he did … was an enormous step in bringing the Temple,” said Asaf Fried, official spokesman for the United Temple Movement, an association of organizations working towards making the Third Temple a reality.

He added, “This necessarily had to come from a non-Jew in order to bring them into the process, so they will be able to take their part in the Temple.”

Fried sees Trump’s role similar to the one played by Cyrus, the Persian king who ended the Babylonian exile and helped build the Second Jewish Temple.

“There have been amazing advances towards bringing the Temple this year. It was clear that Trump was part of that process, guided by Hashem (God),” Fried declared.

Clearly, Trump’s recent policy change had nothing to do with international politics or diplomacy, and everything to do with following a christian-zionist script. Why exactly?

The rise of an Anti-Christ? A violent conflagration of some kind? The end of this fifth world (as we know it)? Or the re-appearance of Jesus? If he even existed in the first place, that is…

Each person and each faction associated with this “prophecy” is steeped in lies and carries forth an anti-human agenda. Divinely inspired, you say? I beg to differ. The “inspiring utterances” come from below.

The Life Expectancy Gap

Wealthier Americans are gaining in life expectancy whereas this figure is decreasing for poor Americans.

Some articles and media have reported that this gap is narrowing…. (One article below describes a widening gap).

But I trust my uncle more. We had a kitchen-table conversation about it here in Maryland. He cannot seem to retire as an economist, and he just wrote an empirical paper about this topic. (He had been a Senior Fellow at Brookings Institute for 40 years, but he still rides the subway into DC three times a week (not paid, just for fun). Who goes to work for fun? After formally retiring? He does.

There has always existed a gap, but this gap is now widening – and it is about to widen dramatically. High-tech life extension measures will be available for those who can afford them.

In contrast, poor Americans are dying earlier and earlier. The principle causes seem to be 1) drug overdoses, principally meth and heroin; 2) a junk-food diet that is even worse than the previous generation, and a lower inclination to exercise thanks to the smart phone; and 3) stress and economic marginalization.

Of these factors, drugs seems to be the one accounting for the recent spike in youth mortality. And the studies predicting a narrowing of the disparity were probably based on 10-year old data…

Again, we are witnessing a growing divergence between the elite and the commoner – a neo-feudal configuration that, this time around, will have physical and biological repercussions.

Interestingly, among poorer Americans even average height is dropping. The average height for men in the US fell below the European average height just a few short (no pun intended) years ago. Mostly because our diet is shit.

Did not Brave New World predict all this? A caste system in full.

The C3PO Factor

Here is a 2 minute video.

C3PO originally did not have a silver leg (in the old timeline). While I’m not a Star Wars expert, I do not know about this than most people. I was one of the first few thousand people to ever see this movie – at  the first showing on opening day at the Uptown Theater in DC, when it only opened in one other theater in New York. It did not take off until weeks later.

I think C3PO always had only gold legs. But now I’m living in a new timeline.

This is one case of the Mandela effect with some residue left over.

My latest take on the Mandela effect, which I will elaborate some other time, is that it is a nudge-nudge, wink-wink reminder that this reality is negotiable.

Jerusalem: Trumpocalypse

Trump aims to relocate the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem. Before I explain why this is fake, and just for show (partly), a few preliminaries.

The UN has always been crystal clear regarding that city’s status. International law does not recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

According to Wikipedia:

“In November 1947, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the United Nations Partition Plan for Palestine (Resolution 181), which called for the partition of Palestine into Arab and Jewish states, with Jerusalem being established as a corpus separatum, or a “separated body” with a special legal and political status.”

A few countries recognize “West Jerusalem” as the capital of Israel only in the context of “East Jerusalem” being the capital of a future Palestinian state.

At present, the US has its Embassy in Tel Aviv and a Consulate in Jerusalem, as do other countries. Many of their functions overlap regarding services to citizens. But the Embassy is more important because it has the political people, with the offices of the Ambassador, Deputy Chief of Missions, etcetera. Embassies also have the economic people.

So why is the move for symbolic reasons only?

Because US diplomats would be marooned in Jerusalem, that’s why. Most diplomatic work, after all, involves other diplomats (who are in Tel Aviv, up to two hours away). Also, many NGOs are in Tel Aviv, which is by far Israel’s largest city.

Diplomatic life involves non-stop socializing, cocktail parties, nightlife, and being seen at all the new trendy restaurants. This is Tel Aviv. Tel Aviv is modern, cosmopolitan, vibrant and increasingly multi-ethnic. It’s very secular. It’s compatible with diplomacy.

By contrast, Jerusalem only attracts psychotic pilgrims from the world over. It’s just another backwater with no water.

My guess is that the US will now have an “official” Embassy in Jerusalem with a sign outside, but that the political and economic people will remain based in Tel Aviv. They pretty much have to be, unless they prefer to remain isolated, remote, and surrounded by fanatics.

So why did Trump move the Embassy. Three reasons.

First, those controllers pushing the “conflict model” in the Middle East are hoping to generate some heat, push forward the agenda in a dialectical way. It’s been too quiet over there!

Second, Trump wants to throw some read meat to the Christian evangelicals. Almost all Christians are hard-core zionists. The hope that this Jerusalem move brings the world closer to an apocalyptic climax. These are the same people who believe in a predetermined destiny AND free will.

Are you Rapture Ready?

It’s a barn burner! Bible-thumping, snake handling, speaking in tongues.

And Jesus, well, he was a Republican.

Third, Trump has been bought and paid for by one man: Sheldon Adelson, who is – appropriately – a casino tycoon and an arch zionist. In terms of campaign donations, Adelson ranks #1.

In this line of thinking, US aid to Israel (astronomical amounts) changes from a secular to a religious act. It becomes an offering at the altar, a humiliation ritual, a sacrifice, thus circling back to one of the original reasons Judaism was concocted in the first place: to steal people’s shit (and turn that into a ritual).

So those are the reasons: 1) to piss off the locals and get some drama going; 2) to appease the Christian wackos; and 3) honor the campaign promise to its principal funder.

Recurring Meme

As I watched season 7 of Game of Thrones on the plane, I was struck by how often I’ve seen the giant library in movies – libraries large enough, or old enough, to contain a compendium of all human experience.

The Library of Alexandria and the Vatican Library also feature in movies. Below is “Angels and Demons.”

Below, the Department of Records in the movie Brazil.

I won’t produce an exhaustive list here, but it is a rather long list. I think these movies are reproducing something. There may be an original archetype, a storehouse of all that can be known of this world – and of the previous four worlds.

The somewhat Biblical expression that something “is written” may be literally true.

Somewhere beyond “the wall” there is a labyrinth of this information – names, dates, titles, contracts, and deeds. Such written sources bind the interior and exterior, attaching identities and souls to this world.

These libraries formalize existence.

Then again, perhaps I’m suffering from a severe case of jet lag
